masdar

so, apparently they are attempting to build the world's first "zero carbon" city in the desert outside of Abu Dhabi...it is being called Masdar...in some ways it is very inspiring as so much of the architecture and urban planning is extremely thought out in terms of using the environment to the maximum and most earth friendly effect (buildings are raised and alleys/streets are narrow in order to capture the desert breezes that create a natural cooling system, their study of ancient Arab settlements in order to learn from them ways in which to deal with the climate, 90% solar power, and absolutely no combustion-engine vehicles are allowed-instead an underground network of driverless electric cars)....in other ways the plans seems like a combination of a sci-fi city taken Star Wars with a failed utopia out of a Aldous Huxley novel...

port jeffereson, to and fro

on saturday we sailed to port jefferson, ny (sailing from CT, it is a straight shot across long island sound) and it was a magnificent summer (like) day....that night we met a couple who have sailed around the world (and plan to do it again) and the moon, though was two nights post full, still had the same radiance....on sunday we awoke to a much more fall (like) day, which carried with it its own beauty of cool strong wind, sand dunes, and pensive skies....

brooklyn grange update

dreams of point reyes

i have been daydreaming for quite some time now about where i might move to in a couple years after nyc/brooklyn...san francisco, seattle, maine, nepal, denmark, etc....but for the past week or so i kept thinking about point reyes in california (i passed through it last year when on a road trip from Portland, OR to San Francisco with my boyfriend and was brought to a great restaurant i can't remember the name of anymore by my friend Shannon)....so my point is when i saw pictures on new york times website today of the designer Leonard Koren's house in Point Reyes, CA, I very much daydreamed of such a place and view (includes a studio also!)...

toast

now, i'm not one who usually posts about clothes and shopping but....
i recently rediscovered toast from the UK and remembered why i loved it: inspiring scenic places in nature and well worn cultural locations combined with simple and well thought out functional and beautiful clothes...and amazing home goods which feature picture of adorable scruffy terriers....
