Sadhu comes from the sanskrit word sādh which means "to reach ones goal", the goal for these Sadhus being to attain moksha (liberation) and renouncing the material world...they are mystics, yogis, and/or wondering monks....the painted markings on their face and body are called tilakas, each design and color having significance....
